High potential and gifted education

Some students learn more quickly or demonstrate exceptional ability in areas such as creativity, problem-solving, leadership or sport.

At Double Bay Public School, we are committed to nurturing the unique potential of every high potential and gifted education (HPGE) student. Our skilled educators provide engaging and differentiated learning experiences that support growth across intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical domains. We create a stimulating and inclusive environment that inspires curiosity, encourages challenge and celebrates individual strengths.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) refers to the ways our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We provide a variety of programs designed to develop and nurture your child’s talents. These opportunities may occur through in-class enrichment, small group withdrawal sessions led by our full-time HPGE teacher, or during break times. Some of the programs we have participated in include:

In our classroom
  • Differentiate learning to create high challenge and engagement in their learning.
  • Give feedback to students to encourage students to reflect and extend their learning.
  • Use explicit teaching strategies to ensure that all students reach their full potential.
  • Have input into classroom decisions and value student voice.
Across our school
  • Press gang (school newsletter).
  • School choir.
  • Sport development.
  • Public speaking.
  • Robotics.
  • Writer's in residence.
  • Premier's reading challenge.
  • Premier's sporting challenge.
  • Student representative council (SRC).
Across NSW
  • Primary schools sporting association (PSSA) teams in touch, soccer, AFL, netball, basketball, rugby, and cricket.
  • State athletics.
  • Choir and dance.
  • Community outreach, including visits to local aged care homes.
